Football Wildcats Off to a 3-0 start

The Greenfield Wildcat Football team is off and running to a 3-0 start after victories over Osceola (8/31) and Forsyth (9/7).  The Wildcats  beat Osceola 80-20 and Forsyth 36-8.

The Wildcats traveled to Osceola on August 31st to participate in an 8-man contest against the Indians. Seniors Bailey Baker and Gage Burns led the way  offensively for the Wildcats with big nights on the ground and in the air.  Baker had over 300 yards of offensive and 5 TDs. Burns added over 100 yards rushing to aid the Wildcat attack.  Juniors Quin Morrow, Levi Matthews, and senior Nico Murray led the defense to a strong night that held Osceola to 111 total yards of offense.

Greenfield hosted their first 11-man in 5 years on Friday, September 7th against the Forsyth Panthers. The Wildcats rolled to 36-8 victory.  Burns and Baker led the way again, as strong line play led the two seniors to over 250 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. Burns added a scoring reception from Baker .

The Wildcat defense was led by strong line play by Murray and Junior Caden Sims who recorded one and half sacks each in the win. Greenfield’s defense held Forsyth to 170 yards of offense in the victory.

Greenfield travels to Marionville (1-2) for their next matchup on Friday, September 14th.

Lady Wildcats Start Season 2-2

The Greenfield Lady Wildcats started their volleyball season with victories over Thomas Jefferson and Everton, while losing to Ash Grove and Stockton.

The season started on Tuesday, August 28th at  home against Thomas Jefferson. The Lady Cats won the match 2-1. The Lady Wildcats were led by  seniors Lauren Jones and Kiarra Mai in the victory. Junior  Adriauna Wallen played strong around the net, scoring several points on kills.

Ash Grove Lady Pirates came to town on Thursday, August 30th. After a strong start to game one, the Lady Wildcats could not hold off the Lady Pirates, losing the match two games to none.

On Tuesday,  September 4th, the Lady Wildcats hosted Everton and won their match in convincing fashion, 2-0. The Lady Wildcats won the match quickly improving to 2-1 on the season.

On Thursday,  Greenfield traveled to Stockton to play against a competitive Tigers team. Despite strong  play throughout the night, the Lady Wildcats fell to Stockton 0-2. The Lady Wildcats will be in action on  Tuesday, September 11th at home against Lamar and Thursday at Lockwood.

Junior High Athletics are Underway

The Junior High Wildcats began fall action last Thursday, September 6th. The Junior Lady Wildcats split the night with the Pleasant Hope Pirates. The A Team swept their match and the B team was swept by the Lady Pirates.

The Junior Lady Cats continued their season on Monday, September 10th with an A team sweep of Lockwood and the B Team lost in 3 sets. They will continue their season play with a home game against the Joplin “C” Lady Eagles.

The Junior Football Cats will begin their season against Stockton on Tuesday, September 11th at home starting at 5:30 pm. The Junior High Football team has 15 players across both grades 7th and 8th.

Athletes of the Week

Athletes of the Week are senior Nico Murray and sophomore Izzy Stapp. Both are not only great athletes, but also excellent students and possess great leadership skills. Nico put together two strong defensive performances against Osceola and Forsyth. Izzy has displayed strong leadership and a go-getter mentality. Congratulations to these two student-athletes.
