2018-2019 Girls Basketball

Greenfield Girls Basketball came to a disappointing end in the first round of District Play on Saturday, February 16th with a loss to Verona. What was not disappointing, was the strides the Lady Wildcats made pushing Greenfield Girls Basketball into a direction of pride and achievement. Throughout the 2018-2019 season, the team earned two tournaments 1st Place trophies, 3 all tournament team player selections, one player (Lauren Jones) reaching 1,000 career points, and the most winning season in the programs last eight years. The Lady Wildcats finished the year with a 15-8 record, earning them a 65.2% season winning percentage. The last time the Lady Wildcats held a winning percentage over 50% was in 2011 (65.4%). Additionally, the 2018-2019 season was the third most successful in the past 22 years falling only behind the 1997 and 2011 seasons.

Looking into 2018-2019 regulation, the Lady Wildcats had a theme that echoed throughout the program and by the end of the season you could hear echoing throughout the community… CHANGE THE CULTURE. Each contest the team focused on doing what they could to will that very motto into existence. Players began stepping into roles that needed filled and the team began to mesh in a way the program has not seen in some time. Lauren Jones (Sr.), Kiarra Mai (Sr.), Adriauna Wallen (Jr.), and Morgan Wright (So.) stepped up and set the tone offensively for the Lady Wildcats. On the defensive end of the floor, Harley Stapp (Sr.), Hattie Taylor (Jr.), and Ashley Daniel (So.) kept the Lady Wildcats in stride. The team was rounded out with help from newcomers Bessie Garcia (So.) and Cynika Manary (Fr.). It was evident, all players had one goal in mind and to see this reflect onto the hardwood made for an exciting 23 game stretch.

Overall, the Lady Wildcats posted a season to be proud of. Although there were many successes to be prideful of, the biggest accomplishment our student athletes made was that each one of these ladies did their part to energize the Lady Wildcat basketball program. Thank you for a great year, girls!
