Governor Closes School for Remainder of 2019-2020 School Year

Dear Greenfield Families,

Thursday afternoon Governor Parson announced that Missouri schools will remain closed through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year to an attempt to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

It was made after thoughtful dialogue with several school superintendents across the state.  As this action was discussed, it became increasingly clear that this was the right decision for the safety of our students and community.

I am writing to let you that while this decision does answer one big question on everyone’s minds, it does create additional questions.  As questions arise, we encourage you to reach out to our district administration so that we can work on developing answers to everyone’s concerns.

While this order does mean that the Greenfield R-IV School District will remain closed, it does not mean that learning ends.  Our teachers have been asked to reach out to their students during this time and to assist their students as technology allows.  To help continue learning during this closure, teachers will continue to put together work packets that can be picked up at each administrative office.  New packets were made available to all students on April 9th and are still available to be picked up.  Greenfield R-IV will continue to provide meals to our students, Monday – Thursday, 11:30 – 1:00 at the elementary school and Monday-Thursday, 11:30 – 12:30, at the South Greenfield Post Office.

Unanswered questions remain about graduation and prom.  With the end of the school now decided, a final decision on these two topics will be addressed soon.  Until further notice, graduation and prom are postponed.

As the information and guidelines about the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, continues to change daily, I wanted to let you know local health professionals and District administrators continue to monitor this fluid situation to ensure the safety and health of our students and staff.  Decisions that are made, will be made with the most up-to-date information.

During this time be sure to follow guidelines outlined by our health professionals:

Tips for Staying Healthy

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a sleeve or a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Throw away the tissue.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth to prevent the spread of germs.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating and/or after going to the bathroom, blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects, such as phones, toys, and doorknobs, especially if someone is sick.

Sincerely,

Chris Kell, Ed.D.

Superintendent
