Lady Wildcats are off and running

The Greenfield Lady Wildcat Volleyball team finished a busy three week stretch in which the Lady Cats went 8-5-3 over that period of time.

The Lady Wildcats had a busy week during the week of September 10th . They played 8 games during the week. They finished the week 3-3-2 with victories over Pleasant Hope, Sheldon, and Lamar. The Volley Cats also played in the Cabool tournament for the first time this year. Coach Marla Kemp was pleased with the girls and their showing , facing several Class 2 and Class 3 teams.

The following week the Lady Cats played  Jasper and Exeter the following week, splitting those two decisions. The Lady Cats fell to Jasper on Tuesday, September 18th in two hard fought sets and beat Exeter in two dominating sets on Thursday, September  20th.

During the week of September 24th, the Lady Cats played in six games, finishing  4-1-1. The Lady Cats beat Liberal in three sets on Monday, September 24th and swept two sets from Golden City on September 27th. Greenfield finished the week in the Jasper Tournament, going 2-1-1. The Lady Cats beat Thomas Jefferson and split with Jasper in pool play. The Volley Cats beat Sheldon in two sets, before losing to McAuley Catholic in two sets in the semifinals of the tournament.

The Lady Wildcats have a quiet week for October 1st with only a tournament in Pleasant Hope on Saturday, October 6th. The cats return to action next week with a game at Verona on 10/8 and a home game on Tuesday, 10/9 against Niangua.

Football Wildcats Return to the Win Column

The Greenfield Wildcats returned to the win column on Friday, September  28th with a homecoming victory over Pleasant Hope 62-24. The Wildcats were led by strong performances by Gage Burns and Daunte Stafford on offense.

To start the game, the Wildcats scored 22 unanswered points with scores by junior Levi Matthews, senior Gage Burns, and junior Daunte Stafford catching a pass from Bailey Baker. Pleasant Hope came roaring back  to end the half with 16 unanswered points. The score at half was 22-16, Greenfield.

Greenfield started with the ball to begin the second half and scored on the second play from scrimmage with a long Gage Burns touchdown. Using the bold strategy of the onside kick, the Wildcats would use the strategy successfully three straight times after scores to build a large lead. Going into the fourth quarter, the Wildcats were only on defense one series and on offense 6 times. The Wildcats built a 62-16 lead after three quarters. Greenfield gave up a punt return in the fourth to finish the scoring.

Greenfield resumes action on Friday, October 5th at home against Ash Grove.
