"Shoeboxes for Soldiers"

As the season of giving is upon us, Mrs. Greene and her third-grade class took it upon themselves to start the season off with a gesture of compassion. The radio station, 105.1 The Bull, based out of Willard, MO runs a seasonal campaign called “Shoeboxes for Soldiers.” The radio station asks local elementary schools to take part and help them fill shoe boxes with care items and notes so that they can be sent to soldiers throughout the holiday season. Each shoe box is hand decorated by students before being sent on their way. Mrs. Greene and her students took notice of this radio station challenge and were all hands on deck. The class extended and elementary wide invitation by sending home fliers to each class asking for their help in this worthwhile project. Care items and shoe boxes were collected November 20th – November 26th. This project was used as a great way to talk about random acts of kindness and showing compassion to others, even if you do not know them.  Teachers and students also discussed the importance of putting others before themselves.  Overall, this project was a rewarding and uplifting experience. Students had a great time decorating shoe boxes and writing notes to the unknown soldiers they were sending to. Great job, Mrs. Greene and students! It only takes one person, or in this case one class, to make a difference and you all have made Greenfield R-IV proud with your warm hearts and kindness!
