The Greenfield R-IV School District Extends Wellness Break Through April 24, 2020

The ongoing impact of COVID-19 in our region requires school districts to be flexible and make decisions that are in the best interest of public health.  In consultation with the Dade County Health Department, and Dade County School Superintendents, we have made a joint decision to extend the “Wellness Break” of our respective Districts through April 24, 2020.

Greenfield R-IV understands that this is an uncertain time for our students, families, and communities, but we remain focused on protecting the safety and well-being of students, staff, and families.

The extended closure impacts all extra and co-curricular activities, events, practices, and before or after school programs.  All buildings remain closed to the public and nonessential personnel.

The Greenfield R-IV School District will continue to provide meal options for children under the age of 18.  During this extended break, we will be switching our schedule of serving lunches for our students.  Beginning next week, meals will be served Monday – Thursday, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm.  Each Thursday, students will receive lunch for both Thursday and Friday.  This way students will still receive five lunches if needed and the district can continue practicing social distancing on Friday.

We are committed to supporting our students and their families as we work through this challenging time together. We are also committed to providing learning resources and options that parents and students can consider during this unplanned break from regular learning.  We understand that a major change in routine can be stressful and oftentimes leads to fear and anxiety for many students. Practicing appropriate self-care is vitally important to a student’s emotional and mental health. To reduce stress and anxiety, it is important to create a schedule for learning time and relaxing or fun family activities.

Please monitor our website, Twitter and Facebook for updates, information, and resources.  Building principals and teachers will continue to reach out to families each week.

Sincerely,

Chris Kell
