National Guard Sgt. Brown

On October 29th, 2019, Sgt. Brown from the United States National Guard gave a presentation to secondary students on the subjects of respect and bullying. Sgt. Brown provided attendees booklets that listed core values, defined what bullying is, and included different scenarios of bullying. The program that he presented is called H.E.A.R. (Helping Everyone Achieve Respect) The core values are loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage.

We also learned the effects of bullying. For example, people may experience stress, anxiety, depression, and self-harm from bullying. Sgt. Brown explained the difference between teasing and bullying. He also explained different ways someone can bully, such as saying harmful things, physical attacks, and shaming.
