substitute teacher amendment

The Greenfield R-IV School District is seeking additional substitute teachers and wishes to make the community aware of the new, more relaxed requirements for substitute teacher certification in the State of Missouri.

The Missouri State Board of Education has amended the process for substitute teacher certification due to the ongoing substitute teacher shortage across the state.  This amendment will allow individuals to take a 20-hour course instead of the previously required 60 college credit hours.  This amendment will be in effect in November. According to the state’s Board of Education, the course will cover topics such as professionalism, honoring diversity, engaging students, foundational classroom management techniques, basic instructional strategies, supporting students with special needs, and working with at-risk youth.   Individuals wishing to seek substitute teacher certification should visit the substitute teacher certification page on the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s website.  The certification page can be found at the following link:  https://dese.mo.gov/educator-quality/certification/substitute-teachers
