Greenfield Boys Take Home Stockton Consolation Title

Last week at the Stockton Tournament, Greenfield played three competitive games and walked away with a 2-1 record and the Consolation Trophy. The Wildcats used strong defense during the week, overcoming an early season defeat to their rival, the Lockwood Tigers, to win on Saturday, January 19th 56-38.

The Wildcats started the week against Class 4 opponent Harrionsville on Tuesday, January 15th. Playing competitively all night, the Wildcats kept within striking distance most of the night before falling to the Class 4 Wildcats 59-50.

Greenfield played a familiar foe in Dadeville on Friday, January 18th, having played the Bearcats just six days prior. While this game was a closer match-up between the two, Greenfield still prevailed by a final of 51-42.

In the Consolation Finals match-up, Greenfield played rival Lockwood in the early afternoon game. The two squared off before Christmas in Lockwood in which the Tigers won 72-64. This game proved to be more about defense as the Wildcats controlled the pace of play, winning by a score of 56-38.

Greenfield Girls Split, Greenfield Boys Take Two

During the week of January 21st, both the boys and girls basketball teams played two games each. The girls started the week off at Stockton once again, hoping to avenge a loss to Lady Tigers from just a few days prior in the Stockton Tournament. While the Lady Wildcats gave Stockton everything they had, the Lady Tigers won the game 47-33.

Both the boys and girls traveled to Dadeville on Tuesday, January 22nd in games of rematches for both teams. The girls played Dadeville in the Everton Tournament Championship game back in November and won. The Lady Wildcats started off well jumping out to an early lead before holding off a comeback attempt. The Lady Wildcats won 52-36.

The Boys' team on that night was going to try and pull off one of the most difficult feats in all of sports, beating the same team three times in one season. This contest was the third in 10 days for the Wildcats and Bearcats. The Wildcats turned a slim 6-point halftime lead into a 21 point lead going into the 4th quarter. The Wildcats won the game 67-50.

In what has seemed to be a season of redemption, the Greenfield Wildcats hosted the Miller Cardinals on Thursday, January 24th. The Wildcats lost to Miller in the Consolation Finals of the Marionville Tournament in November, 59-46. Overcoming a first half deficit, the Wildcats used a big third quarter to pull ahead of Miller and eventually won the game 54-45.

The Wildcats (11-8) will host Exeter on Tuesday, January 28th at 6:00 pm before traveling with the Lady Wildcats (13-6) to Bronaugh for games on Friday, February 1st at 5:00 pm.
