#SmithClass

Our third grade year is off to a running start. We have had some fun and exciting events that we’ve really enjoyed.

First off was the Fall Carnival. Our PTO does a phenomenal job of organizing and
carrying off a truly exceptional event that really gets the kids excited and pulls in and involves
the parents and community as a whole. The third grade classes united to create an “Everything
Halloween” themed basket that was part of the silent auction. Several kids came and had a
blast playing the games that were provided and treasured the prizes that they won.

On October 23 rd , the 3rd grade classes went on a field trip to Country Roads Family Fun Farm. Our trip really lived up to the name of our destination! FUN was had by one and all. The kids got to pick out their very own pumpkin to take home. Other activities included a petting zoo, hay slides, a corn pit, a train ride, a pumpkin craft, and other fun activities to make for a memorable day.

Mr. Land sponsored a Scholastic Book Fair. Several kids were able to participate and buy
some neat items. It’s always interesting to see what things are the most popular among our
kids.

Halloween is always a fun day at school. The students dressed up in their costumes and
proudly displayed them on the Halloween Parade up and around the square, by the High
School, & back to the Elementary. It was a very cold walk, but even the cold didn’t put a
damper on the kids’ enthusiasm on the day.

Third grade is a big transition year for our students as we have to buckle down and get
ready for the MAP test in the Spring. My goal is to get a good foundation in math and reading
built so they can do well on this test. Any extra help you can offer at home would be greatly
appreciated. Please make time to read with/to your child each night – even if it’s only for 10-15
minutes. Every minute in a book is time well spent!

I am excited to see how our year continues to unfold and am looking forward to many
more memories that will be made along the way.
